Comfortable and 'Cool': Kids' Mountain Bike Shorts
There are many different styles and companies that make kids' mountain bike shorts on the market today. Unlike the past where there was only the 'tights' style of kids' mountain bike shorts, today there are some styles in which the shorts look like a regular pair of shorts so that the comfort is still there but the child can also maintain the 'cool' look that they enjoy in other clothing around their friends.
Mountain biking is becoming more and more popular, as there are now professional riders who race in mountain bike races and are seen on advertisements for mountain biking products and equipment. For those who get to the professional level or even just to a racing level, there are racing mountain biking shorts that are made specifically for the needs of individuals who race their mountain bikes.
Choices
There are some kids' mountain bike shorts that are still made in the 'tights' style. These come in different lengths, from very short shorts to shorts that go down to the knee. All of these kids mountain biking shorts have the panel type of padding that will keep the child's buttocks more comfortable on the bike ride. Although there is the temptation to wear another pair of shorts over the tights style of mountain biking shorts, this is not a good idea since the top pair of shorts tends to bunch up and cause pinching and other discomfort during the ride. Instead, if the child is uncomfortable by the exposure that the tights style of mountain biking shorts give, then the parents should look at another style of kids' mountain biking shorts that fit looser and look more like a regular pair of shorts.
There are some loose fitting pairs of kids' mountain bike shorts that can be found in outdoor supply stores. These shorts look like they are made of a canvas material, but are really made of a nylon shell that helps to wick the water away from the skin to keep the rider dry and comfortable. Most of these kids' mountain bike shorts go to the individual's knee, but there are others that are a knicker style that can be used in colder weather so that the child can still have comfort of the buttocks but also comfort of warmth during a cold weather ride. The shorts usually come in natural colors like tans, browns, grays and blacks, but can sometimes be found in other colors as well.
